When i was thinking through the details for our farmhouse front porch makeover i knew from the very beginning we would want to do something to makeover the concrete steps.
Wood stair treads over concrete.
They cannot replace treads.
If the stairway is made of wood your stringer should also be wooden.
However the challenge comes when you try to.
They cover the entire tread including the nosing to provide excellent slip resistance.
Best way to go about measuring and installation anchors need to be position exactly bellow the pilot hole is to drill the concrete with the wood tread in place.
I m about to cover a typical indoor concrete staircase with wooden treads mai daeng and only using this on the treads leaving the exposed concrete on the riser.
Position one fir strip against the concrete tread and one at the front edge of the tread fir strip.
Attaching on concrete floor.
Switch to the masonry bit and drill all four holes to the recommended depth for the drop in anchors.
Building wood steps over concrete steps made a huge impact for our farmhouse front porch renovation.
Simply start pilot holes in wood using wood bit until you feel it has reach the concrete repeat this process with all four corners.
At an absolute minimum there needs to be a high quality moisture barrier installed either roll on or stick on and also 3 4 plywood as decking between the concrete and the new treads.
These are the support boards that should be attached on the top and bottom floors that the stair way is connecting.
Because they cover the entire tread they can hide surface damage and other imperfections but they must be used on structurally sound steps.
Step 2 measure the width and the depth of the concrete steps.
Measure and cut treated wood fir strips the same width as the concrete riser.
That will help with moisture transmission but it s not a sure solution.
Learn the process and materials we used to complete this project.

They can be installed over concrete metal or wood using construction adhesive or screws.

If the concrete steps are in disrepair the wood may break along with the concrete steps.
Replace the concrete steps if you find them riddled with cracks and other imperfections that may cause them to buckle.
One is attaching the wood stringer to the concrete floor and the second instance is placing the wood treads on existing concrete stairs.
